We have been talking about Nicole, the NGO fundraiser who is doing her 120% to raise the necessary funds for the integration and further education of highly-educated refugees in Europe. Nicole and her organisation are very passionate about upholding the dignity of all people and creating equal opportunities for all, regardless of their circumstances. Their dedication for the cause, comes from the heart.
She was aware of the hesitation that many board members carry for not getting involved in the fundraising processes for the fear of being given tasks such as proposal writing or going door-to-door or simply not knowing what to do, or worse, being forced to contribute considerable amounts from their own pockets.
Yet, none of these are expected from board members when it comes to being engaged in philanthropic fundraising for their organization.
Ellen Bristol has written a concise article about The Board’s Role in Fundraising: A strategic Approach in which she concludes: “When it comes to the board’s role in fundraising, there is no single answer – and no easy answer either. It behooves every nonprofit board to collaborate on defining that role, upholding their mutual decision and commitment, and staying focused on the desired results.”
